Sulli, Amber, Krystal, Victoria, Luna

SM's newest girl group, to debut on September 2nd in a showcase, f(x).

The members of the band have been formally released with only their names as details and little else is known about most of the members. However, two of the band members seem to already have debuted in previous works by their company seniors. Surprisingly, both of them were featured in SHINee music videos. Is SM trying to hint to us that this might be the female version of SHINee? Victoria Song was the featured 'noona' in the SHINee debut music video, Noona Neomu Yeppeo. In a more recently released MV, Krystal Jung, known for being SNSD Jessica's younger sister, was featured as SHINee's 'Juliette'.

While Victoria Song has made a name for herself in CFs and other releases of other artists and Krystal has already been slapped with the label of 'Jessica's younger sister', the other members still seem to be in hiding. Member Sulli seems to have done quite a comparable list of activities as the famous other two members, but her name isn't really quite out there yet. She acted as the young Princess Sunhwa in Ballad of Seodong in 2005 whereafter she was recruited by as an SM trainee. Born in March '94, she is 15 years old and seems to be the same age as Lee Taemin of SHINee but she takes on the Choi Minho role as the second youngest. The magnae of the band is Krystal Jung, born in October '94.

Luna has only been reported to be Korean, but nothing else is known about her. As well as with member Amber, a Chinese-American (yaycheena!), who I sincerely mistook for a male in their teaser video here.

Anyone thought of Jonghyun, SHINee and 'Love Like Oxygen' during the chair scene with Amber there in the hat? Well, I did.

In the finishing pose, it's Victoria, Luna, Krystal, Sulli then Amber. Although I might have screwed up Luna and Sulli but I'm quite sure I'm pretty accurate. It seems that they will be an Asia Pop Dance Group, as advertised by SM Entertainment in their teaser video. It really is a tease, because I'm dying to know more about Luna and Amber.

I have the strangest feeling that Amber will be the rapper with the same image as Choi Minho. She seriously looks like Jonghyun though. Krystal looks more Yoona/Yuri/Seohyun than Jessica in their officially released photo. And I'm wondering why Victoria Song, born in '87, looks more like Jessica than her own sister. Sulli looks strangely familiar, but I can't quite place my finger on her. Maybe there's a little Park Shinhye in her, you know, that chick from Taegoon's music video with Jaejoong? And Luna looks more like the American-Chinese than Amber to me.

Their dance skills looks impressive for now in the teaser, so I'm expecting their debut single 'Lachata' to be of high standards. No heels for Amber either though and I'm seriously bugged about knowing nothing about her. Perhaps she's actually a guy crossdressing as a girl. Wouldn't that make interesting drama. She looks kind of pale and sickly in the teaser though, so I hope she gets well in time for her showcase debut. It seems that trainee or actual star, SM works you just as hard.

Although I have no idea what 'Lachata' might mean in the vaguest sense, it actually sounds quite catchy. My favourite member already is Amber, so I'll be keeping my eyes and ears peeled for this new band that has already got me hooked. What with the mathematical name, my song style of choice and the mysterious Amber and all.

My notes on the teaser. Amber has really long hands. She was sitting down when she snapped and her hand managed to appear over the heads of the other girls, who were in heels. I'm amazed, really. And in the dance, she doesn't seem as sultry and sexy as the other girls. She has a strange awkward boyish charm that really caught my attention the first time I saw the teaser, this being a girl band after all. Her moves are much more 'muted' in a sense and seem more like something that would fit in with SHINee than f(x). I wonder if this is an image that SM has given her or just how she really is. One really obvious example is how, after Victoria Song does her cartwheels (which earned her bonus points for talent), the rest of the members pull off a stereotypically 'female' kind of sexy pose and expression while Amber just pulls her hat even further down to conceal her face.

Don't tell me SM is going in the direction of that T-ara member whose face we've never really seen and have speculated as disfigured or some shit. Amber was even hidden behind Victoria for a move in the beginning, in the dark scene with them all in black. Great idea, SM. We're just watching blackness really. And then cutting out Amber on the last scene when they're all shaking their chests in the provocative female way again. You know the kind of moves sexy stars in Korea usually pull? Hers was more of a between man and woman chest shake, from what I could actually see.

According to my sister, f(x) is slutty. I beg to differ. She has never seen real sluts before.

So far I like Amber, Luna, Sulli, Victoria and Krystal in this ranking order from best to not so awesome. It doesn't mean I dislike any of the members, I personally prefer them over more recent girl bands and some bands who are making their comebacks, just that I don't like them as much as the rest yet.

I hope Amber isn't the rapper chick. Honestly, stop assigning them roles and give them all equal chances to sing and perform. (I am still pissed over the fact that Minho doesn't talk and he only raps. I wouldn't have minded so bad if he spoke and just rapped, or didn't speak but sang. But he doesn't talk and he just raps.) It would be cool if any of the other members were the rapper chicks, but I have the gut feeling that Amber is doomed for that role. Not that rappers are not cool (see Epik High, thanks) but SM rappers don't really have the lines (see Hyoyeon and Minho, honestly, I rarely hear their voices besides in raps).

I CANNOT WAIT FOR THIS BAND TO DEBUT, BITCHES.

SM has a fetish for making bands in pairs.

H.O.T/S.E.S
TVXQ/TSZX the Grace
Super Junior/SNSD
SHINee/f(x)

Or this is what I think anyway. It seems the guys overshadow the girls slightly though. I hope f(x) sparkles as brightly as their male counterpart, contemporary band SHINee. Love f(x)'s fashion already. Wish I could dress as well as them. But of course, that's fat hope.
